The Kill A Watt energy monitor should fit the bill. Talk about cool factor and a money saver. I just saw it for $21 at Amazon. This baby allows you to actually plug things in, like appliances, and see how much energy they are using. It's all about awareness..if you don't know you can't change your habits. This provides the "know".
Imagine plugging it in the entertainment center outlet strip (I know my receiver is always warm..hmmm). You'd really see how much "ghost" power is being eaten up. It might cause you to hit the main switch when not in use and save some money.
Now what would really be cool is if they could add wireless capability to this thing so you could collect the data on your computer.
